Temples are school for the training of the spirit, the sanctum sanctorum (परम पावन स्थल), where one’s worldly and spiritual desires are realized. Temples break the circle of the Birth and Death and help the sadhak to attain eternal peace, beatitude and salvation which is the ultimate goal of human life.
To convert the long cherished desire of the residents of the Urban Estate Housing Board Colony into a temple and with a view to satisfy the religious and spiritual needs of the thirsty souls of the area, Sri RadheyShyamMandir, Urban Estate Phase-2, Patiala came into existence somewhere in 1976 on a small piece of land measuring 71’x103’. In the year 1988, the Mandir was badly affected by floods.
In order to maintain this prestigious heritage and its sanctity (पवित्रता), Sri RadheyShyamMandir Committee was formed which was later got registered with the Registrar of Firms and Societies (Punjab) vide Registration No 912 dated 21.03.1990 under the Societies Act (XXI of 1960).
Since then the Committee is taking care of the needs / requirements of the residents of Urban Estate as well as nearby areas. With the allotment of another piece of land in 1995-96, a beautiful centrally Air Conditioned Hall was got constructed (with seating capacity of about 450-500 persons) along with Langar Hall in the Basement and Kitchen, which is being used by the residents of the area for various functions such as Bhagwat Katha / Parvachan, Jagran, Mata Ki Chowki, Bhog, Medical Camps / Blood Donation Camps / Yoga Camps, Seminar, Official Meetings, School functions etc.
In additions to celebration of regular functions, many other functions are also organized in the Mandir from time to time, keeping in view the demands / requirements and suggestions of the residents.
In the year 2000, a new Management Committee, took over the previous one. This committee was headed by Sh. H.R. Singla, who took keen interest in the development of the Mandirand brought all the Hindu families of the Urban Estate to a common platform and inspired and persuaded the residents not only to donate generously but also persuaded them to become regular monthly donors. With the liberal donations from the residents a huge hall was constructed, for the installation of all the idols of the Gods and Goddesses (deities).
The auspicious day of Maha-Shivratri in the year 2003, the installation of 03 Idols of Shiv Parivaar in the Shiwala was done. March, 05, 2003 was another auspicious day when 14 idols of ShriDurga Mata, ShriRadheyShyam, Shri Ram Parivaar, Shri Lakshmi Naryan, ShriSaraswati Mata, ShriSantoshi Mata and Shri Hanuman Ji were installed in the Hall.
With God’s blessings, the temple has gained wide popularity among the community members and it is visited by a large numbers of worshippers and devotees. The temple organizes several programs during the year, which are regularly updated on this web site.
